Many of us like to listen to music while we are driving. It is a nice addition to driving. It gives us something else to do than just sit, watch, and turn the wheel accordingly. However, what we listen to can make us a worse driver.
An Israeli study showed, not surprisingly, that people who drive in silence are the most focused on driving. Surprisingly, it also showed that the more beats per minute a piece of music has, the more likely it is to negatively impact your driving. The fast tempo distracts our mind and makes us less focused on the task of driving.
A person listening to techno, or club music is more likely to blow through a stop light than someone listening to classical music, or emo pop-music. The takeaway here, save the club music for the club, or at least home, and listen to something with fewer beats per minute for a safer drive.
