Yesterday, we learned the impressive news that the 2017 Lincoln MKZ is the recent recipient of a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The 2017 Lincoln MKZ boasts an upgraded front-end structure that helped it achieve the highest possible rating of "good" for all five crashworthiness assessments, including the difficult small overlap front test which represents a frontal collision in which a small portion of the vehicles front end is involved. With less mass to absorb the crash, small overlap collisions are generally among the most violent.

Another requirement for earning the institute's highest possible rating is that a vehicle must offer an available front crash prevention system that scores either Advanced or Superior. The MKZ's Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection helped the MKZ avoid crashes at both 12 mph and 25 mph, earning it the superior rating.

In addition to its forward collision warning system, the 2017 MKZ boasts a full suite of safety and driver assistance technologies including a lane-keeping assist system that leverages a forward-facing camera to detect lane markings. The system will alert the driver and even apply steering wheel torque if the sensors detect drifting.
